What the Scriptures say about Prayer

18 The Lord is near all those who give honour to his name; even to all who give honour to him with true hearts.

Philippians 4:6
6 Have no cares; but in everything with prayer and praise put your requests before God.

Matthew 7:7-8
7 Make a request, and it will be answered; what you are searching for you will get; give the sign, and the door will be open to you: 8 Because to everyone who makes a request, it will be given; and he who is searching will get his desire, and to him who gives the sign, the door will be open.

Matthew 6:9-13
9 Let this then be your prayer: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10 Let your kingdom come. Let your pleasure be done, as in heaven, so on earth. 11 Give us this day bread for our needs. 12 And make us free of our debts, as we have made those free who are in debt to us. 13 And let us not be put to the test, but keep us safe from the Evil One.

Matthew 21:22
22 And all things, whatever you make request for in prayer, having faith, you will get.

Matthew 18:19-20
19 Again, I say to you, that if two of you are in agreement on earth about anything for which they will make a request, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are come together in my name, there am I among them.

Mark 11:24-25
24 For this reason I say to you, Whatever you make a request for in prayer, have faith that it has been given to you, and you will have it. 25 And whenever you make a prayer, let there be forgiveness in your hearts, if you have anything against anyone; so that you may have forgiveness for your sins from your Father who is in heaven.

Luke 2:37

23 But the time is coming, and is even now here, when the true worshippers will give worship to the Father in the true way of the spirit, for these are the worshippers desired by the Father. 24 God is Spirit: then let his worshippers give him worship in the true way of the spirit.

John 16:23-28
23 And on that day you will put no questions to me. Truly I say to you, Whatever request you make to the Father, he will give it to you in my name. 24 Up to now you have made no request in my name: do so, and it will be answered, so that your hearts may be full of joy. 25 All this I have said to you in veiled language: but the time is coming when I will no longer say things in veiled language but will give you knowledge of the Father clearly. 26 In that day you will make requests in my name: and I do not say that I will make prayer to the Father for you, 27 For the Father himself gives his love to you, because you have given your love to me and have had faith that I came from God. 28 I came out from the Father and have come into the world: again, I go away from the world and go to the Father.

John 15:7

14 If you make any request to me in my name, I will do it.

James 5:16-18
16 So then, make a statement of your sins to one another, and say prayers for one another so that you may be made well. The prayer of a good man is full of power in its working. 17 Elijah was a man of flesh and blood as we are, and he made a strong prayer that there might be no rain; and there was no rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 And he made another prayer, and the heaven sent down rain and the earth gave her fruit.

I Thessalonians 5:17-18
17 Keep on with your prayers. 18 In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.

I John 5:14-15
