What the Scriptures say about Children

(Proverbs 22:6) If a child is trained up in the right way, even when he is old he will not be turned away from it.

(Proverbs 15:5) A foolish man puts no value on his father's training; but he who has respect for teaching has good sense.

(Proverbs 17:6) Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their fathers.

(Colossians 3:20-21) Children, do the orders of your fathers and mothers in all things, for this is pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not be hard on your children, so that their spirit may not be broken.

(Proverbs 23:13) Do not keep back training from the child: for even if you give him blows with the rod, it will not be death to him.

(Deuteronomy 6:6-7) Keep these words, which I say to you this day, deep in your hearts; Teaching them to your children with all care, talking of them when you are at rest in your house or walking by the way, when you go to sleep and when you get up.

(Hebrews 12:9-11) And again, if the fathers of our flesh gave us punishment and had our respect, how much more will we be under the authority of the Father of spirits, and have life? For they truly gave us punishment for a short time, as it seemed good to them; but he does it for our profit, so that we may become holy as he is. At the time all punishment seems to be pain and not joy: but after, those who have been trained by it get from it the peace-giving fruit of righteousness.

(Proverbs 29:17) Give your son training, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your soul.

(Matthew 19:19) Give honour to your father and your mother: and, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself.

(Luke 18:16) But Jesus sent for them, saying, Let the children come to me, and do not keep them away, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

(Luke 9:48) And said to them, Whoever gives honour to this child in my name, gives honour to me: and whoever gives honour to me, gives honour to him who sent me: for whoever is least among you all, that man is great.

(John 16:21) When a woman is about to give birth she has sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she has given birth to the child, the pain is put out of her mind by the joy that a man has come into the world.

(Matthew 21:16) Have you any idea what these are saying? And Jesus said to them, Yes: have you not seen in the Writings, From the lips of children and babies at the breast you have made your praise complete?

(Luke 1:13) But the angel said, Have no fear, Zacharias, for your prayer has come to the ears of God, and your wife Elisabeth will have a son, and his name will be John.

(John 1:12) To all those who did so take him, however, he gave the right of becoming children of God--that is, to those who had faith in his name:

(Matthew 18:10) Let it not seem to you that one of these little ones is of no value; for I say to you that in heaven their angels see at all times the face of my Father in heaven.

(II Timothy 3:15) And that from the time when you were a child, you have had knowledge of the holy Writings, which are able to make you wise to salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus.

(Luke 7:13-15) And when the Lord saw her, he had pity on her and said to her, Be not sad. And he came near, and put his hand on the stretcher where the dead man was: and those who were moving it came to a stop. And he said, Young man, I say to you, Get up. And the dead man got up, and words came from his lips. And he gave him to his mother.

(Proverbs 29:15) The rod and sharp words give wisdom: but a child who is not guided is a cause of shame to his mother.

(Proverbs 23:22) Give ear to your father whose child you are, and do not keep honour from your mother when she is old.

(Matthew 18:2-5) And he took a little child, and put him in the middle of them, And said, Truly, I say to you, If you do not have a change of heart and become like little children, you will not go into the kingdom of heaven. Whoever, then, will make himself as low as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever gives honour to one such little child in my name, gives honour to me:

(Titus 2:6) To the young men give orders to be wise and serious-minded:

(I Peter 2:2) Be full of desire for the true milk of the word, as babies at their mothers' breasts, so that you may go on to salvation;

(Psalms 127:3) See, sons are a heritage from the Lord; the fruit of the body is his reward.

(Ephesians 6:1-4) Children, do what is ordered by your fathers and mothers in the Lord: for this is right. Give honour to your father and mother (which is the first rule having a reward), So that all may be well for you, and your life may be long on the earth. And, you fathers, do not make your children angry: but give them training in the teaching and fear of the Lord.
